our great students

summer lessons

We would like to acknowledge and thank all of our fantastic students who performed in the 2018 Spring Recital.  We had an excellent turn out, and our students were amazing!

We'd also like to acknowledge this month one of our students who recently achieved her Grade 3 RCM Piano certificate with First Class Honors.  A very special congratulations to Megan E. for her accomplishment!

Here at School of Music Arts, we continue to operate through the summer months, and we strongly encourage our students to continue with us over the summer.  There are several reasons why we believe it is a good idea to keep going.

First of all, if you don't use it, you might lose it.  In other words, unless you keep up regular lessons and practice, chances are your skills will start to get a little rusty, or minor bad habits might start forming without a teacher there to instantly correct them.  It's very common for students who take a break to need to backtrack when they return, which takes time to bring them back up to where their level of playing was at before the break, which of course slows down a student's progress.  If you do plan to take the summer off, we recommend continuing daily practice so that the backtracking is kept to a minimum.

Secondly, due to our limited available space, and our teacher's busy schedules, we cannot guarantee an available time in the fall.  The best way to ensure you retain your spot is to continue the lessons.  Even if you need to take a week or two away here and there over the summer, we are quite flexible for summer times and can usually accommodate most changes.  That being said, we plan to invite students back at about the mid-August mark to give them the chance to find a time ahead of any new fall registrations.

"Life can't be all bad when for $10.00, you can buy all the Beethoven sonatas and listen to them for 10 years."

new teachers

We've had to say goodbye to a few great teachers recently who have finished their programs at Western and moved on in their careers.  We wish them well.  But we're also looking ahead and have recently hired three great new teachers.  Kevin Wang (Clarinet) and Shannon Lewis (Flute) will be here for at least the summer, while our most recent hire, Rachel Gain (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano) is expected to be here for at least the next school year, and we're very lucky to have these great teachers.
